I have been part of vendor negotiations, focusing on getting not just the best price but also the best pricing structure—i.e. one that minimizes financial risk when business plans inevitably change (volume commitments, fixed-vs-variable fees, tiered pricing, performance guarantees, etc.)

Problem
The monthly close was taking weeks to complete—due in part to laborious manual tasks that were being done—and numbers were booked without much detail, leading to time-intensive research whenever questions arose.
Solution
After listening to Accounting’s pain points and seeing the process myself, I implemented several changes that addressed larger issues. I automated a task that accountants were doing manually, removing a collective day of close time and reducing errors. I created a new benefits allocation methodology that greatly reduced time with no reduction in quality. And I created a macro-based journal entry template that added detail and usable information to postings while simultaneously saving time.
